The mission briefing came in this morning.

Four viruses. Nothing new there, but these are mutating faster the usual and we need people on the ground to deal with them.

My colleagues are packed and ready to go, while I'm to stay here and continue my research. I'm especially concerned about the virus codenamed Yellow, currently spreading through South America and Africa.

...

We thought we had it under control. We had established a new research station in Baghdad, and making progress identifying all four diseases, codenamed simply Yellow, Red, Blue and Black. Dwight, our Medic, was doing a good job keeping things under control, especially with his local connections, but we've just suffered a major setback. Yellow has mutated in unexpected ways. Now classified as COdA-403a, Yellow cannot be cured by usual means. Our Scientist, Catherine, is working doubly hard assisted by Eve, our Generalist.

...

COdA is out of control. We have outbreaks in South America and our Dispatcher, Jimmy, cannot keep up our transport requirements, even with his new pilot's license. With our resources stretched thin, we are also suffering outbreaks of Blue in Europe and rioting has started in the infected cities of Buenos Aires and Sãn Paulo.

...

Out funding has been increased, but it may be too late. While we have focused our efforts on curing, and eradicating, Black (now known to be Bubonic Dave), riots have also broken out in New York, Washington and Paris.

...

I fear that all is lost, we can but hope for things to improve in February.
